Granite Mountain Trail

The Granite Mountain Trail is one of the best hiking trails in all of Colorado! The trail is located in the southwest corner of the state, which sits right in the heart of the Red River Gorge. What makes this trail so special is that it is within minutes of two other great Colorado attractions: the South Platte River and the historic Fort Collins Museum. While on the trail, you will also encounter some cool geological features, such as rivers, streams, gorges, geysers, cliffs, sandstone, juniper woodlands, and ponderosa pines. Along your way, the trail will also give you a glimpse of beautiful Colorado nature.

On your way up the trail, you will experience some pretty amazing “green” scenery! As you make your way upwards, you will notice that there are different shades of green everywhere you look. This is caused by the mineral composition of the rocks that comprise the trail. The colours – browns, yellows, blues, and greens – made the area so popular in the 1800s as a mining and mineral-rich area. And the beauty of these hues is no longer new!
